Dual Immersion Program
Dual Immersion Program
Trost is a Dual Language Immersion (DLI) program school, with teaching in English and Spanish for all students. Students begin the program in kindergarten and continue through sixth grade at Trost, at which point they have the option to continue in the program at Baker Prairie Middle School and later Canby High School.
Trost's K-6 program is open to all incoming kindergartners across the Canby School District. If there are more applicants than spaces, a lottery is held in May. If you are interested in DLI for your incoming kindergartner, please see the flyers and come to an informational night to learn more about the program and sign up to visit a classroom.
Please contact the school for additional information about the DLI program at Trost.
FAQ
When can my student join the Dual Language Immersion Program?
Students begin the program in kindergarten and continue through sixth grade at Trost. In some cases, if room is available, students can be accepted into the DLI program through the middle of first grade.
For any student beyond first grade, a transfer request may be accepted if the student has strong bilingual skills and can learn and understand content in both languages. In such cases, students will take a reading, speaking, and listening assessment to determine the student's Spanish and English ability level.
Please contact the school to enroll.
Does my student need to know Spanish to enroll?
No! Incoming kindergartners enter with a range of language skills. By the end of their time at Trost, they should be proficient in English and Spanish. Many of our students go on to earn the State Seal of Biliteracy each year at high school graduation.
For any student beyond first grade, strong bilingual skills are required to be considered for transfer to the Trost Dual Language Immersion program.
